Discounts & Promotions
Create and manage discounts, comps, and promotional offers.
Plasma makes it easy to apply discounts while maintaining accountability. Every discount is tracked and reported.
Discount Types
Percentage Off — Reduce by a percentage of the total.
Examples:
- 10% employee discount
- 20% happy hour special
- 50% industry night
Fixed Amount — Subtract a specific dollar amount.
Examples:
- $5 off coupon
- $10 loyalty reward
- $25 gift card redemption
Comp — Remove item or check entirely (100% off).
Examples:
- Manager comp for service issue
- PR/media meals
- Owner discretion
Creating Discounts
Open Portal
Navigate to Discounts in the main menu.
Add Discount
Click Create Discount and choose the type.
Configure Settings
Set name, value, and any restrictions (see below).
Assign Permissions
Choose which roles can apply this discount.
Discount Restrictions
Control when and how discounts can be used:
| Restriction | Description |
|---|---|
| Time-based | Only valid during certain hours (happy hour) |
| Day-based | Specific days of week (Taco Tuesday) |
| Item exclusions | Cannot apply to alcohol or specific items |
| Minimum purchase | Requires minimum check amount |
| One per check | Cannot combine with other discounts |
| Employee only | Requires employee to be clocked in |
Alcohol Restrictions
Many jurisdictions prohibit discounting alcohol. Configure this per discount:
☑ Exclude alcohol items
☑ Exclude happy hour drinks
☐ Apply to full checkCheck local regulations before discounting alcohol. Plasma can enforce exclusions but compliance is your responsibility.
Applying Discounts
At Checkout
- Open the order
- Tap Discount button
- Select from available discounts
- Confirm application
Item-Level Discounts
Apply to specific items instead of full check:
- Tap the item in the order
- Select Apply Discount
- Choose discount
- Only that item is affected
Manager Approval
For restricted discounts:
- Server selects discount
- System prompts for manager PIN
- Manager enters credentials
- Discount applied with audit trail
Reporting
Discount Summary
View all discounts applied:
- Total discount value by type
- Discounts by employee
- Discounts by time period
- Average discount per check
Accountability
Every discount is logged with:
- Who applied it
- Who approved it (if required)
- When it was applied
- Original vs. discounted amount
- Reason code (if configured)
Access in Reports → Discounts.
Regular discount audits help identify training opportunities and potential misuse.
